After early growing pains, Kiki Iriafen became part of USC’s One-Two Scoring Punch

Los Angeles, ca - December 29, 2024: USC Trojans Vooruit Kiki Iriafen (44) runs.

Kiki Iriafen tried to play cautiously. But the man who SerenAdde her new USC teammates and coaches during dinner in the back room of their chic restaurant in Paris had just released an extra microphone. And now teammates have her objection.

She first wiped them off. But they already knew her well enough to know she couldn’t leave it.

So on the eve of the USC season, Iriafen stood up, grabbed the microphone and participated in singing together with the “Killing Me Softly” from the Fugees. She walked through the aisle and worked the back room of the restaurant as she broke it out. The entire room sang with her at the last chorus.

It was just the kind of spotlight stems that her Trojan teammates would expect from De Ster Vooruit during a fantastic 25-2 season of 25-2 at USC.

“That is just Unapologically Kiki,” explains senior Rayah Marshall.

And to think, when she switched from Stanford last spring, it was not clear how iriafen-one probably a top-five choice in the coming WNBA concept-zou fits a team that already had a ball-dominant star in Juju Watkins. But at the end of February, with the Trojan horses no. 4 in the country and a Big Ten title on the line on Saturday against no. 2 UCLA, Iriafen was an inseparable part of their national title chased and not only for her almost nightly double doubles.

“Kiki brings such a joy, such a bustling,” said coach Lindsay Gottlieb. “We don’t try to take that for granted.”

Sticking in the spotlight was never a problem for the constantly sunny iriafen. But finding where she suited usc, turned out to be more a process, a process that took time and tested her mental resilience.

It started well before that trip in Paris, before she even committed herself to USC. The legendary coach Tara Vanderer was just retired in Stanford, and Iriafen, a native LA and former Harvard-Westlake height, considered both USC and UCLA when Watkins called her. The two had crossed paths many times as part of the hoop scene of the city, but they had never played in the same team.

During various conversations they spoke about their fit and their goals. Iriafen even spoke with the Van Watkins family. The prospect of a partnership was tempting: she had made the last four as a first -year student at Stanford, but only played in the cardinal loss of championship for one minute. Two years had flown by without a return trip.

“I just had the feeling that I was still missing something,” Iriafen said.

Together, Watkins and Iriafen knew that they had the potential to form one of the most powerful one-two bumps in college basketball. They also acknowledged that this would require a sacrifice. Even if neither of them would fully understood at the time what that would look like in practice.

“The most important thing was that we were tailored to the same goals,” Iriafen said. “Whatever it is needed to win a National Championship, whatever it takes to win, that’s what we want. We both really wanted that. If I really would give the extra things, the statistics and all those things, I would have just stayed where I was. But I really wanted to end my university career with a bang. “

In the beginning it felt seamless. USC teammates did their best to make her welcome.

“From the moment I arrived here,” Iriafen says, “It was like:” We want you here, we appreciate what you say: “Such things.”

But on the field it was like stepping into a whole new world. The system at USC was completely different from the more rigid she had developed in Stanford, where the touches in the Hoge Post were regularly made for her. Gottlieb’s attack, for comparison, ran fewer sets with much more freedom, more pick and roles and an improvisation flow that in the beginning felt a bit uncomfortable. More was also requested from Iriafen for defense. Until USC, she was never really asked to monitor the circumference.

All adjustments pushed iriafen in a way that she is now grateful. But at the time: “There were definitely some growing pains.”

The early loss for Notre Dame stands out in mind. Iriafen was good for 15 points – almost 25% of the USC score – and pulled down nine rebounds. But she felt she had failed the team. She got away and wondered what role she had to play.

She did not immediately find those answers. There were nights that Iriafen would put it all together, as when she scored 30 in a victory over Saint Louis. Or her piece four Double-Doubles in five games in December.

But until the season she still didn’t feel that way. And now there were more eyes on her than ever before.

“There are so many things on social media, so many expectations you have for yourself,” Iriafen said. “And if things don’t go the way you want, is it about how you keep appearing every day? How do you keep pouring it and keep believing in yourself? “

Those fit questions have been an undercurrent for the majority of the season, for more than just iriafen. Due to this dynamic navigating, constant adjustments – and regular reassurance – from Gottlieb has required in detail about the management of the weight of expectations.

That weight seems to have been lifted since the beginning of February. Since the loss of USC against Iowa, the Trojans have won six in a row, with a few top 10 victories and two more against teams in the top 25, while Iriafen has had a tear, on average 20 points in that piece.

One night she looked out of the species was in the victory of USC at UCLA, because Iriafen opened the game one to nine from the field. Watkins came to life in her absence and scored 38, but it was Iriafen who helped to complete the top brown with nine points in the fourth quarter.

“I now have the feeling that we are in a much better place,” she said.

It also took time for Watkins to find out how best to play at Iriafen.

“I have never really played with a player like them,” says Watkins. “She certainly raised my IQ.”

What happens next for USC, with the NCAA tournament that is approaching quickly, will not last hinges on Iriafen, who has shown that she can step into the spotlight when the moment requires it.

The video -evidence of the Galen Center Jumbotron played for everyone who can be seen last week, while Iriafen’s Paris performs the speaker in the Senior Day pans in Paris.

It was a perfect moment to capture what she had brought to USC.

“I think her WNBA career is not in danger,” Gottlieb said about that performance. “But we thought it was great.”

Rob Lowe wonders why sex scenes in films such as Babygirl are ‘good’

Rob Lowe sounds about how sex scenes are thought in films today.

While speaking with Sex and the city Star Kristin Davis on the episode of 27 February of him Literal! Podcast, Lowe and Davis discussed how it is rare to have “sexy movies” nowadays, but Lowe “took it back”, as he saw Nicole Kidman Baby girl He described as ‘quite large’. However, the two discussed frankly about why films are now considered ‘brave’ because they even have sex scenes even in the beginning.

“They are like,” It’s so brave. She is so brave, “said Lowe.” She is brave because she has a sex scene? Like, that’s brave now. In our time it was required. ”

Lowe also noted that in the early days there would be a “page 73 rule” in the “Midden-Seconde act” where the “sex scene was always on page 73” and you “didn’t have to read the entire script” to know if an intimate scene was planned.

‘I know, she Blue lagoon It, “he said,” pointed to each other on a moon -lit night. But now it’s so brave. “

Davis agreed and said that “things have changed” and “keep changing” in the industry compared to their early days.

“I always have the feeling that chaos comes the chance,” Lowe added. “My attitude is that you always make the best of it [and] Disruption is actually a good time to build new things. If you can be one of the agile and you could be one of the progressive … not deep -rooted and not try to create again yesterday, but try to understand tomorrow, it’s your time. “

For her Hollywood Reporter Cover -December, Kidman said they have the Baby girl Script as “raw and dangerous” given the “sexuality” of the film and “that it is not written for a 20-year-old” or “even written for a 30-year-old”.

“Women are often thrown away as a sexual being in a certain period of their career. So it was really wonderful to be seen this way. From the moment I read it, I had something like: “Yes, this is a voice that I didn’t see, this is a place that I have not been, I don’t think the audience has been.” My character has reached a stage in which she has all this power, but she is not sure who she is, what she wants, what she wants, even though she seems to have it all. And I think that is really relatable, “said Kidman about the film.

“I think it’s very free, this film. I hope it is. I have let a number of people say that it is the most disturbing film they have ever seen, which I am so of: ‘Oh no, I am so sorry,’ she added.

Meanwhile on her podcast, Are you a Charlotte?Davis had a similar discussion when I think about how the perception of women has changed since then Sex and the city broadcast. “See how people now present themselves. It is completely normal to have almost everyone on a red carpet in a pure dress where possible show their nipples, “said Davis during her conversation with clinical psychologist Dr. Hillary Goldsher. “Like, this would never have happened in the old days.”

She continued: ‘We were afraid of showing our nipples in the show. We had something like that: “Oh my God. They want us to show our nipples. “We were so worried about it. Right? Like, would we be avoided? We know, you know, poured out … Through the film world or whatever, what is a bit insane to think about. ‘

  • Ford Mach 4 trademark certainly sounds like a good name for rumors four -door Mustang Sedan

Ford Mach 4 trademark certainly sounds like a good name for rumors four -door Mustang Sedan

In an attempt to expand his performance, Ford seems to be working on a car that you may find shocking: a four-door Mustang-Sedan. It would help to further expand the Mustang-Line-Up after the success of the crossover of Electric Mach-E, especially in view of the fact that the Sportcoupémarkt is not as great as it once was. It would also help Ford return to the normal car market, years after the car maker went all the way to trucks, SUVs and crossovers. We have heard rumors about a potential Mustang -Sedan for a while, and a recent trademark request for the brand shows that Ford may have already chosen a name for the Mustang Sedan.

Get ready for the Mustang Mach 4

Spotted for the first time by Ford Authority, shows a trademark request from 25 February that Ford has submitted the name “Mach 4.” To register in the submission description, this is for “motor vehicles, namely gasoline and electric cars, pick-up trucks, sports utensils and their structural parts.” Unfortunately, no more information has been provided to give us a better indication that Ford is working on. The current status of the submission shows that it is also awaiting the trademark office, which means that this name is not yet certain.

Ford has been considering a Mustang -Sedan for years

Ford has been playing with the idea of a Mustang -Sedan for more than 50 years. In the early sixties, Ford did a mockup of a Mustang -Sedan that seemed ready to produce, although it never saw the light of day. A proposal from Mustang Sedan again occurred for the S197 generation in 2005, but according to Ford Authority, the Sedan never passed the concept phase and never shown to the public.

The automaker even went so far that he created a large -scale model from this Mustang Sedan around 2005, although the photos of that model are unfortunately not available, and just like all design studies, this was an internal concept that was never shown to the public. The fact that Ford went so far that it would make a design study for a four -door pony car, however, proves that at least some within the walls of the blue oval were receptive to such a machine at that time.

Another Mustang Sedan concept was apparently shown to dealers in 2018, but nothing came of it. The same happened in the summer of 2024 after a few years of rumors, which gives even more credibility to this recent trademark request. During a dealer conference, CEO Jim Farley called a representation of a Mustang-Sedan, you guessed it, Mach 4. It was presented in addition to a few other performance and off-road variants of the Mustang as well.

Would a Mustang -Sedan be useful? Absolutely. Since Dodge offers the new charger Daytona in Coupé and four-door liftback sedan bodywork Irish, it would be a perfect competitor for his Crosstown-Rival. Although the Mustang purists had even more angry than the Mustang Mach-e did, this sedan could also help bring more buyers to the brand if the price is good. Whatever Ford has planned for this Mustang -Sedan, I can’t wait to see it.

CDC who investigates hospital admissions from five people who recently received Chikungunya -vaccine

    CNN

The American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is currently investigating five hospital admissions that took place in people who recently received a vaccine that occurs disease caused by the Chikungunya virus.

In a message posted on Tuesday on a vaccine information page for care providers, the CDC said that people, all 65 and older, were admitted to hospital for heart or neurological events after vaccination with IXCHIQ, the only Chikungunya vaccine that is currently a license in the United States.

CNN has contacted the CDC for comment.

Chikungunya virus is usually spread to people through the bite of an infected mosquito. Most adults do not receive the vaccine; it is sometimes Recommended for certain travelers with an increased risk to be exposed to the illness transferred by mosquitoes.

“This subject will be discussed during a coming meeting of the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP). Healthcare suppliers must discuss the benefits and risks of vaccination with individual travelers based on their age, destination, travel time and planned activities, ”said the online notification of the CDC in part.

The Chikungunya vaccine and the surveillance for side effects were originally planned to be discussed in an ACIP meeting on Wednesday, according to a draft meeting agenda, but that meeting was postponed.

Dr. William Schaffner, expert in infectious diseases at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Acip Liaison, said that the CDC research is an example of the agency’s vaccine monitoring system “who work well and send a signal” in detecting rare events that may deserve further research.

“And of course, the CDC and the locals that take care of these patients are now working on it, which is completely appropriate. That is the way the system should work, “Schaffner said.

“Don’t forget that we are still trying to find out if this is a causal relationship or a casual relationship,” he said about the research, in which he is not immediately involved. ‘Let us not draw conclusions yet. That’s why they do the research. ”

The IXCHIQ vaccine, administered as a single dose in the muscle, contains a living, weakened version of the Chikungunya virus. The vaccine, made by the biotechnology company Valneva, was the first vaccine approved by the American Food and Drug Administration to prevent diseases caused by the Chikungunya virus. The approval, in November 2023, was for people aged 18 and older who run an increased risk of exposure to the Chikungunya virus.

“It is recommended in a very limited way of travelers who go to countries where a current outbreak of Chikungunya is virus infection, and also to travelers who have been going to countries who had experienced an outbreak in the last five years,” Schaffner said. “And also to Laboratori who work with the Chikungunya virus in the laboratory.”

A Valneva spokesperson said on Thursday morning in an e-mail statement that the company is aware that the CDC will assess the safety data of postmarketing as part of his routine vaccine surveillance.

“We understand from the CDC that at least four of these five people had also received other vaccines, and most of them had important underlying medical conditions. Valneva has not identified problems with the safety signal by safety monitoring after marketing, including periodic safety reports and routine signal detection activities, and the safety profile of IXCHIQ remains consistent with data from clinical tests, unchanged and positive, ”said the statement. “No changes have been observed in the established safety profile of clinical test, including participants who are monitored for more than three years after vaccination. Valneva continues to collaborate with health authorities to guarantee the highest standards of vaccine safety. ”

Prescribing information for the vaccine entry: “Vaccination with IXchiq can cause serious or long-term chikungunya-like side effects.”

Chikungunya virus circulates in tropical and subtropical areas. According to the CDC locally, infections have been reported in the United States. But fallen and outbreaks were identified in more than 100 countries in America, Africa, Asia, Europe and the Indian and the Pacific.

Symptoms of chikungunya infections are fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, joint growths or rashes, according to the CDC, and the best way to prevent Chikungunya is to avoid mosquito bites. There are currently no medicines to treat chikungunya, but infected people can feel better with rest, liquids and freely available drugs for pain and fever.

In Tuesday’s notification, the CDC said that common side effects after vaccination that took place in more than 10% of vaccinated people in clinical examinations tenderness, headache, fatigue, muscle pain, joint pain, fever and nausea include. In some people, “serious or long-term chikungunya-like side effects occurred”.

Chikungunya-like reactions include “fever, joint pain, headache, rash, and can also include cardiac and neurological disorders that were serious in two cases,” said Dr. Dan Barouch, director of the Center for Virology and Vaccine Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, who was not involved in the clinical studies, in an e-mail Wednesday.

The notification of the CDC encouraged care providers to report all the side effects that can be caused by vaccination to the CDC/FDA vaccine processing events Reporting System (VAERS) “, by submitting a report online or using a PDF form.

“The robust vaccine safety monitoring system often identifies extremely rare adverse effects of vaccines after approval,” said Barouch, an expert in the field of infectious diseases that is not involved in the CDC research.

When the vaccine was approved in 2023, the FDA noted that its safety was evaluated in two clinical studies in North America, in which around 3,500 adults received a dose of the vaccine, with one study with around 1,000 participants who received a placebo. Severe Chikungunya-like side effects took place in 1.6% of the IXCHIQ recipients and none of the placebo receivers, according to the FDA.

  • My daughter behaved like a bully at school; I was relevant

My daughter behaved like a bully at school; I was relevant

    • My daughter showed “mean girl” behavior that led to a meeting with the school dean.
    • Ashamed and upset by her behavior, I feared for her future relationships.
    • I had to remind myself that we had to keep modeling empathetic behavior at home.

My stomach turned around when the school Dean my husband and me called in a conference to discuss the daughter of our first degree Behavior with a different classmate.

In the meeting we learned that our daughter consistently left her classmate from group activities. For example, every time the girl sat down with our daughter during lunch, our daughter stood up and sat at another table.

Sadly saddened by this behaviorMy husband and I thought about our parenthood. Did we not emphasize kindness in our house and modeled empathy? How often have we told our daughter about times when we experienced bullying as children – that it hurt our feelings and left a lasting impact? Our daughter seemed to be touched by these heart-to-havocs, but her behavior turned out to be at school at school.

It was embarrassing for our daughter to act with her classmate, and it was a good memory that I can influenceI can’t have control over it.

Children are their own people, formed by a combination of factors

Of course my husband and I felt ashamed and humble through the choices of our daughter. Laughing Regina George’s character In “Mean Girls” we don’t want to raise a mean girl.

I am aware that my response to fear was based, I turned to some simple truths to get a better perspective. They are naturally selfish, Jillian Amodiotold a recognized social worker to Business Insider. “It is a survival skills, but sometimes a frustrating when they display behavior that we consider” unacceptable, inappropriate or socially paralyzing, “Amodio said.

Furthermore, children have “no perspective on the long game,” said Patty JohnsonA clinical psychologist. “Their ability to plan, organize and follow is short -sighted, while we parents tend to predict far into the future of our children’s life. If they have a TIFF at school with another student, the child can concentrate on the incident that took place, while parents can worry about how their child can get to life, making friends who are confused.”

I struggled not to see my daughter’s behavior as a character error instead of what it was – an immature person who learned to navigate in a difficult relationship. If adults are inclined to struggle in relationships – and our brains are much more mature – how can we expect children to get it right every time?

This was a good memory that my daughter’s comfortable behavior was not necessarily reflects my parenthood Or who would grow up.

I give room for her to talk to me about things that happen

“But it wasn’t alone!” My daughter defended. “I got up because another girl said,” Let’s sit there! “

Although my daughter’s behavior was unkind and unforgivable, the more I refused the layers, the more I discovered that her view of what happened was complex and was confused in her other relationships at school. She is not a natural born leader and often takes her instructions from others. While we discussed her behavior, I discovered that she usually responded and modeled it from her colleagues.

Continuous conversation at home helped my daughter change her attitude towards the girl she was catige for. When she found ways to take her in school activities, my husband and I cheered her thoughtfulness and celebrated. If they had a misunderstanding, she felt safe to bring it to me or my husband so that we could discuss it. That girl got the top of her guest list when my daughter’s birthday party arrived.

Although my first reaction was shame and fear, I finally learned to release it and offer my daughter a safe place to process the complexity of this relationship. Although it was a difficult situation, it helped us to lay a better foundation for trust and communication of parent-child and, I hope, grace for each other.

    Donald Trump at Turnberry

The R&A has long been afraid of assigning the opening to Trump Turnberry would turn from the major into a political circus – Reuters/Carlo Allegri

Donald Trump has been warned, not only is his controversial personality that prevents the opening to return to Turnberry – but the relatively low income that the location also earns for the R&A.

The US President proudly referred to his ownership of the famous Ayrshire tires during Thursday’s joint press conference alongside Sir Keir Starmer, the Prime Minister, in the White House.

And also, also, King Charles in his letter to Trump, personally delivered by Starmer, who invited the 78-year-old to organize an unprecedented second state visit to the UK, also begged him to spend time with him in nearby Dumfries House, “when you are the next visit to Turnberry”.

Previously Mark Austin, the Sky News presenter, reported on X: “I hear about a good authority that is high on the list of what Donald Trump wants from the UK to open in Turnberry.”

However, Mark Darbon, the recently installed R&A Chief Executive, indicates Telegraph On Friday, the administrative body would not be influenced by government requests to appease Trump.

“The core of our decision -making will be the factors that have served us well in the past and we hope that we will continue to serve ourselves well in the future,” he said.

The predecessor of Darbon, Martin Slimbers, continued to give a clear reason why Turnberry-de Course that organized the legendary ‘Duel In The Sun’ from 1977 and most recently the event 2009 where a 59-year-old Tom Watson was almost displayed his glory of 32 years earlier for the British Major, despite the fact that he was on the official Major. “We will not take any events there until we feel at ease that the entire dialogue will go over golf,” Slumbers emphasized Telegraph So recently in November.

Although Darbon is on the same page, he has changed the story in the sense that he has now outlined another problem that the administrative body hesitates to go back to the layout of the Ailsa. It can be honored, but it is also remote without suitable transport connections.

“We need a location that is suitable from both a logistics and commercial perspective,” he said. “That is crucial for us, because we generate the most of our income through the open air and we use that to invest in the rest of the game around the world. So the reality is that a contemporary open requires a location that can support us logistics and commercial.

“So we have a number of questions that we have to work on at the logistics and commercial front. When we were there in 2009, we had a little more than 100,000 [123,0000 spectators] For the week. We work against most of our locations today on comfortable more than double. So it’s not as easy as just saying, “Would we go back?” There is a part of the work that is needed to investigate. “

Darbon quickly praised the renovation work that has been carried out since the purchase of Trump in 2014 and called it “spectacular”. But he also strengthened the point of Slimbers, known as stunned when Trump arrived in his helicopter during the first round of the Women’s Open 2015 and continued using the scene as a glorified stop on his election campaign.

‘I think that’s true [what Slumbers said]”Said Darbon, the former CEO of Northampton Saints. “We want the focus on what we think is the largest golf championship in the world and on the search for champion golfer of the year. So yes, that is hard to deny. “

However, he agreed that the door is not closed, even if it is almost impossible to see Turnberry host the British major until after the second term of Trump ends in 2029. For their part, the Trump family insisted that they are ready for the honor and that despite all the worries about the size of the crowd will produce a memorable week.

“Turnberry is considered by everyone the best golf course in the world by the players, the writers, the spectators and the entire golf community,” said Eric Trump, the son of the president, in a statement Telegraph. “If we get the call, and I sincerely hope we do that, I promise the R&A that we will be the best hosts who has ever seen the Open Championship.”

After months of searching, an American collector flies to Germany to buy a Corvette Sting Ray from 1966 – only to see that it was dismantled.

After months of hunting on his dream car, the American collector Roger finally thought it – a Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray from 1966. The only catch? It was in pieces in a German garage, waiting to be put together again as a puzzle.

Roger saw the Corvette online for the first time three months ago and could not get it out of his mind. The car had been parked in the same place for almost a decade, owned by a man from Kentucky who had never driven it before. Initially Roger missed his chance to buy it when another buyer intervened. However, when the deal dropped, he didn’t waste time, pulled the money back and flew to Hockenheim to bring the classic sports car home.

The Corvette, powered by a 327-cubic inch V-8 that produced 350 hp, was originally kept in a barn that had since been converted into a garage. When Roger arrived, he found the car with his rear axle dismantled, wheels was missing and various components removed. Fortunately, many of the original parts, including the Goodyear tires, were still neatly organized in boards.

Roger and a Corvette-Large mechanic did not push off, carefully pushed the beam out of the garage and in the sunlight for the first time in nine years. Given the strict parking instructions from Hockenheim, they had to move quickly to load it on a trailer that was to Roger’s classic Chevrolet Nomad.

Despite its condition, the Corvette has a beautiful black leather interior with diamond pattern stitching, an unusual third rear light adjustment and 115,000 miles on the kilometer counter. Roger plans to lower the suspension, remove the extra rear lights and to perform a power conversion. However, before he delved into the restoration, he gave the car a much needed wash and celebrated the long -awaited moment.

With the car safely back in his store, Roger discovered the missing emblems tucked away in a box in the car. Although changes are now planned, he simply enjoys the fact that the Corvette where he is obsessed with for months is finally his.
