  • Yankees announce that Giancarlo Stanton starts with 2025 MLB season in IL due to tendinitis in elbows

Yankees announce that Giancarlo Stanton starts with 2025 MLB season in IL due to tendinitis in elbows

The New York Yankees announced on Saturday that Giancarlo Stanton is starting the 2025 season on the injured list. Stanton was not ready for the opening day, seemed to be an inevitable result, because he was unable to participate in the spring training due to tendinitis in both elbows.

Last week Stanton left the spring camp in Tampa for further medical tests by team doctors in New York. The Yankees revealed that he received platelet -rich plasma (PRP) injections in both elbows hoping to speed up the healing process.

Before that, the 16-year-old veteran revealed that he had not waved a bat in a month because of the pain in his elbows. Stanton also explained that he has dealt with this issue that goes back to last season.

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said the decision was made because Stanton does not have enough time to be ready for the opening day. Moreover, his absence means that other players must be prepared to replace him with the designated Slagman.

“Just without time,” said Boone, via the New York Post. “The biggest thing is to do it good. If that costs us a bit on the front, it is so. I feel that we will get a good place with this. It’s a long year.”

While Stanton is on the IL, Aaron Judge could see more time at DH, allowing Trent to play Grisham midfield while Cody Bellinger goes to the right. Jasson Domínguez is expected to start the season in the left field.

The Yankees can also give Most DH strokes to Ben Rice against right-handed pitching. Rice hit his first home run of spring in Saturday’s 9-3 victory at the Houston Astros. Last season he hit six of his seven home runs opposite the right hand.

Other options currently in the camp include Outfielder Everton Pereira, Catcher/Infielder JC Escarra and Veteran First Baseeman/Outfielder Dominic Smith, who last season hit 22 Doubles and six gayers with the Boston Red Sox and Cincinnati Reds.

Another possibility is to go outside the organization for DH help. The Yankees reportedly had contact with JD Martinez, who .235 hit with a .725 Ops, 16 home runs, 24 Doubles and 69 RBI for the New York Mets last season.

Each of those options will be less productive than Stanton, which .233 struck with a .773 Ops, 27 home runs, 20 Doubles and 72 RBI in 114 games last season. He also had an impactful late season and hit seven home runs with a 1,048 Ops. But that is a disputed point while Stanton is too injured to play.

The Yankees open the 2025 MLB season on March 27 against the Milwaukee Brewers.

The New Zealander, a triple big winner, started one shot before Charley Hull in England.

But three consecutive birdies of the sixth brought the 27-year-old Olympic champion in a strong position and Ko ended with a round of 69 for a total of 13 under, four free from Thailand’s Jeeno Thitikul and the Japanese Ayaka Furue.

Hull, who said after the third round of Saturday that she was struggling with illness, slipped from the battle with a last double-over-round of 74 for a total of seven in part of the third.

Ko’s victory was her first in 11 performances at the event on the Tanjong -Baan at Sentosa Golf Club -and her 23rd LPGA victory.

“I just wanted to concentrate on my game because it was a pretty tight leaderboard,” she said.

“I didn’t know if I would win. But to win here in Singapore and get all love, not only this year, but for the years that I have come, it means a lot.”

  • After trading Spencer Knight in Seth Jones Deal, Panthers has to tackle the targeting situation

After trading Spencer Knight in Seth Jones Deal, Panthers has to tackle the targeting situation

    Image

    Image

The Florida Panthers made a huge trade on Saturday evening, but now they have to make a big decision about their goalkeepers.

In a deal with the Chicago Blackhawks, Florida exchanged the young goalkeeper Spencer Knight and a 1st round pick for defender Seth Jones and a 4th round pick.

Adding Jones brings a huge boost to the Panthers Blueline.

He is great at reading plays and blocking photos and adds an attacking element that is missing this season from the back line of Panthers.

There is no doubt that the chances of Florida to repeat, because Stanley Cup champions are much better after making this exchange.

But now general director Bill Zito and his staff at Florida have to decide how they want to replace Knight.

The 23-year-old former 13th General Pick has been completed in shape in recent months and played some of his best, most consistent hockey as a professional.

Zito and Co. Would have been more than comfortable to enter a different cup yacht with Knight as their target insurance.

Now that he is now moving to Chicago, a decision must be made.

The Panthers still have 21 games about their regular seasonal schedule, including five back-to-back sets in a period of 30 days.

The person who makes Sergei Bobrovsky backup, they will do much more than sit on the couch.

    The NHL -Handelsdeadline is Friday.

Will Zito focus on another goalkeeper between now and then? That is the question.

Flames -goalkeeper Dan Vladar, who had a performance on Saturday at a loss for the Panthers in Sunrise, plays $ 2.2 million on a sloping contact and is available.

It is clear that veteran John Gibson is a man where each team would be more than comfortable as part of their tandem after the season, but his price tag of $ 6.4 million is a bit high and runs until 2027.

If we call Gibson, we must also add Jordan Binnington and his $ 6 million contract to the mix of boys who would certainly like Florida, but would probably have to make the financial data to make it logical. His deal also runs until 2027.

There are also lower expensive options for the forging contracts.

Anton Forsberg from Ottawa earns $ 2.75 million, David Rittich from Los Angeles earns $ 1 million, and at the end of this season Karel Vejmelka plays a $ 2,725 deal, but all three will be free agents.

Both goalkeepers from San Jose, Alexandar Georgiev and Vitek Vanecek are reportedly available and each play at respective $ 3.4 million cap -hits.

Also in consideration, the No. 3 must be goalkeeper Chris Driedger in Florida.

It is three would apparently slide into Knight’s site, at least in the short term, while Zito is evaluating the situation.

We will see how things take place the next week.

    Stay informed.

This year UCLA went 27-0 in competitions that Juju Watkins were not involved. (AP Photo/Mark J. Terrill, file)

No. 2 UCLA went 27-2 in the regular season. Usc’s Juju Watkins had a combined 68 points against the Bruins in those two losses. On February 13 she scored 38 points in a win of 71-60. And on Saturday she had 30 in an 80-67 victory.

With another burning performance of the leader for the National Player of the Year, no. 4 USC de Bruins defeated to wipe their season series and to win the Big Ten title of the regular season. UCLA remained unbeaten in games that were not involved.

Watkins received those 30 points on 10-or-22 shooting from the field (4-of-11 from 3-point range), while crumbling in five assists, three rebounds, three blocks and two steals against two turnover.

USC started a strong start behind Watkins, who scored 23 of those points in a first half that ended with the Trojans who led with 14 points. For a sold out, USC played a sold -out Pauley Pavilion in Westwood and took the check early.

UCLA managed to return to the game in the second half, which limited the management to only four points towards the end of the third quarter. Another run in the fourth put the Trojans back in control, allowing Watkins to check out with a full minute to enjoy the victory.

USC has now defeated four times consecutive UCLA, where Watkins dropped at least 30 points in each match. She is now 4-1 against the Bruins. Trojan legend Cheryl Miller, present with her brother and Ucla Alum Reggie Miller, liked what she saw.

On the other side of the sidelines, UCLA’s own National Player of the Year candidate Lauren Betts struggled and ended with 11 points on 5-of-11 shootings, 11 rebounds, two blocks and five turnover. USC clearly had a game plan for her and was aggressive with his double teams, and it worked.

With their leading Scorer Stille and Kiki Rice, their only other player with average double digits per match, shoot 3-of-13, the Bruins could hardly keep enough momentum on the attack. They shot 22-of-61 (36.1%) as a team, with 16 turnover against 16 assists.

The victory means that USC will take the number 1 seed in the Big Tournament and now have the inside of the inside of a number 1 seed in the NCAA tournament. UCLA was the top team when the NCAA tournamentomité unveiled its top 16 on Thursday, while USC had the last number 1 seed. These two teams were theoretical to meet again in the Big Ten -Tournament, with even more at stake.

Nobody has an NFL Scouting combination such as TCU wide receiver Jack Bech.

Bech competes two months after the death of his older brother Tiger in Indianapolis, who was killed one of the 14 people in the terror attack that New Orleans rocked on New Year’s Day. To honor him, Bech took the field on Saturday with the Bibleers “and you that stay on the path of justice will harvest what you have sewn”, and angel wings on the other side.

The shoe pictures were the same that he was wearing in the senior bowl, where he also wore the number 7 of his brother. Tiger played a wide recipient in Princeton.

Bech performed well with the mowing porter, showed strong hands in the glove drill and kept his in the measurement exercises.

“I know that my brother now has me until the end of time. He pushes me to new heights. He will be with me. He has the best chair in the house,” Bechh NFL NFLWORK told the combine.

Bech comes from an even more emotional performance in the Senior Bowl, where he earned MVP subjessions after catching the game-winning Touchdown and harassing his teammates.

Bech is seen as a Mid-Round NFL Draft Prospect that projects to find playing time as a possession receiver after leading TCU with 62 catches, 1,034 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Those statistics earned him a second team All-Big 12 awards.

Letters to Sport: Mick Cronin is not John Wooden, but he is still a great coach

Westwood, ca - December 3, 2024: UCLA Bruins head coach Mick Cronin shouts an attacking game.

UCLA coach Mick Cronin shouts during a match against Washington in Pauley Pavilion on December 3. (Gina Ferazzi / Los Angeles Times)

Mick Cronin is the latest active coach who achieves 500 victories. In his short time as UCLA’s main basketball coach, he led the team to a last four and two sweet 16 performances.

This season’s team currently has 20 wins and is in the top five in the Competitive Big 10 Conference classification.

But that is not enough for Bill Plaschke, who thinks Cronin is too heavy for his players when he calls them in public. He is cool for them because (a) this is and has always been his style, and (b) it gets results. A little over 50 years ago a UCLA coach told his star calmly, two-time All-American Center, that if he would not cut his hair and shave his beard, the team would miss him that season. The news that this happens today would send Plaschke on a tirade, I am sure. But the player ran on the words of his coach, got the hairstyle and shaving, and the coach and player – John Wooden and Bill Walton – enjoyed a great season and, more importantly, a fantastic, lifelong relationship.

Mick Cronin is not John WOODEN. Nobody expects he will be. But he is a great coach, a proven winner, teacher and leader. Shouldn’t that be enough?

    Steve Kaye
    Oro Valley, Ariz.

I appreciate Bill Plaschke, but his recent Cronin piece has just been missed. Coach Cronin is not here to win a popularity competition – he is here to win basketball games and to build character. And guess? He does both. Of course, he is fiery. Of course, he is cool. But finally I checked that John Wooden’s pyramid did not include: “Let everyone feel warm and blurry.”

Cronin’s TrackRecord speaks for herself-he has built winners in Murray State, Cincinnati and, now, UCLA who uses the same ruthless, defense-first style. His players not only leave as better athletes and basketball players; They leave as a harder, more disciplined young men who are ready for life outside the field.

    Are they the shoes?

The advice of LeBron James to Luka Doncic to the effect of “don’t worry about matching us” and “you are you” should just go that far. The new green shoes from Luka (which he debuted against the Mavericks) are anathema for the purple and gold and may not be worn as long as Luka is in a Lakers uniform, which will hopefully be long enough for the Lakers to catch up with the Celtics for most NBA titles.

    Ken Feldman
    Tarzana

Fans of Lakers who hoped that LeBron would retire James should reconsider their position. Luka Doncic brought the fountain of the youth. LeBron seems motivated to prove that although Luka might be the future, LeBron is currently still a top dog.

    Richard Raffalow
    Valley Glen

LeBron James and Luka Doncic are now playing together pretty well, and the Lakers will become a championship candidate. A while ago this kind of talk did not exist, but such a flowering will not come true, because the good old Bill Plaschke has predicted that it is time for the 18th title run of the Lakers.

    Fantastic thinking

Now that the Rams Matthew Stafford have signed, they have to add Cooper Kupp because last season was an aberration. As a fantasy football junkie I guess that he catches 80 or more in 2025. It is hoped that it is for the rams.

    Illegal contact?

Just like the forbidden flying wedge from a century ago, the “Tush Push” is not a legitimate football game and must be forbidden. The runner not only moves under his own strength and the swarm of players makes it difficult, if not impossible for the officials to know where the ball is. Keep the Tush in rugby where it belongs, the player must earn that last garden!

    A compliment for DWYRE

My God! I did not expect to find a masterpiece on the rear ‘for’ sports page of the La Times of today. But that is what I found in Bill Dwyre’s beautifully written and investigated article about the destruction of the Tommy Hawkins house in the Palisades Fire.

Combining the life of Hawkins with the fiery tragedy of wife Layla is powerful above words – certainly mine. Letting us share these emotions is really journalism at its best. I can only imagine that Dwyre is writing, looks over his shoulder and Jim Murray sees him giving him a thumb up!

    Public Opinion, Private issue

Eric Sondheimer has nailed it when he pointed to the pleasures of old, public school basketball. I can’t say in strong enough terms how much I despise the final of the state and championships by private schools with their many unfair benefits. In a better world, public schools would only compete with other public schools for championships. Private schools would only compete with each other. It is clear that mine is a minority power. Congratulations to Mira Costa and Los Alamitos!
